Campaign for Democracy (CD) and Conference of Nigeria Civil Rights Activists (CNCRA) have commended the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu for nominating Ifeanyi Odili, into the State Board of Public Procurement, describing him as a true democrat and a principled personality.
The groups, while further commending Akeredolu over the appointment of Odili, who is a staunch member of both organisations, said the governor was one who recognised the efforts and sacrifices of pro-democracy and human rights groups in the democratisation of Nigeria’s polity which previous administration nationwide did not.
CD chairman (South-West), Elder Olaseinde Aina and the National Administrative Secretary of CNCRA, Segun Olojuola, gave the commendation in a joint statement, and further described Akeredolu as a good and selfless leader.
However, CD and CNCRA noted that “But sadly, people will always have something negative to say, whether you are doing bad or good.”
They urged Akeredolu “not to allow the antics and wiles of his detractors to make him slack, weary, and unmotivated. Rather, he should be more focused and unperturbed as members of civil rights groups need transformational leadership with a high sense of humanity which the governor represents.”
The groups, therefore, thanked him with a promise to ensure a good working relationship between the CD, CNCRA, and the government of Ondo State under his leadership. They promised “to embark on mass sensitisation to ensure that his government subsists in 2021.”
They, however, reminded him of their complaint regarding holding charge in Ondo State, noting that the concept was ungodly, and anti-human, just as they appealed to him to look into bail conditions in the state judiciary.
According to the groups, a situation where suspects are requested to produce GL12 and above in the civil service to stand surety in court is uncalled for, unwarranted, and baseless.
