THE Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Nasarawa State, Hon Francis Orugu, has called on the state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura to account to the state and return money budgeted for the failed airport project.
The governor had earlier in the year budgeted N17 billion in the 2016 budget for the construction of a cargo airport in the state but failed as a result of non viability of the project.
The chairman made the call, when he held a meeting with former senior civil servants of the party in Lafia, on Monday.
The PDP leader accused the government of subjecting workers in the state to hardship and abject poverty as a result of non-payment of workers’ salaries.
He queried why workers’ salaries are paid in percentages while the governor’s security vote of N200 million is still intact.
The chairman accused the governor of squandering the state’s scarce resources on overseas trips saying he is always being represented at national occasions by his deputy.
“This Al-makura’s government is 419 to civil servants in the state, he claims he is working but all the contracts are not transparent as he and his family handles the contracts. We learnt he is trying to return workers welfare when elections are close. But I think everyone is wise now.
He urged the former senior civil servants to lend their voices to spokes persons of the party to liberate the state from the shackles of darkness in the state.
