Residents of Kaduna living along Abuja-Kaduna road on Wednesday called for the urgent removal of heavy duty vehicles parked along the road to reduce accidents.

Some of the residents who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna also called for the removal of shanties built along the road sides by petty traders.

Mr Tobi Ajayi, a resident said the call was also to ensure free flow of traffic and reduce accidents following the completion of repair work on the road.

Ajayi said the removal of the shanties would reduce the risk of vehicles running into food item sellers on the road while on high speed.

“We are happy that the repair work on the road has been completed but my appeal is that government should remove all the heavy duty vehicles parked by the the road sides.

“As it is now, the road is going to be very busy from next month because of the planned closure of Abuja Airport.

“Failure to remove these vehicles will increase the risk of accident because of the anticipated high speed following the good state of the road,” he said.

Mr Musa Dauda, another resident commended the Federal Government for the timely completion of the repair work project on the road.

He said the inconveniences suffered by motorists; commuters and the residents during the 50 days of work on the road was worth it since the project had been completed as scheduled.

Dauda said the completion of repair work on the road would improve the socio-economic life of residents, especially ease the difficulties of transporting agricultural produce to either Kaduna or Abuja.

According to him, before the completion of the project, it takes four hours drive to Kaduna but with the completion, one can get to Kaduna within two hours.

“So, it will not only reduce the time spent on the road but will also reduce the cost of transportation,” he said.
