MEDICAL Director, Federal Medical Center Makurdi, Dr Inunduh Peteru has described the warning strike embarked upon by resident doctors in Benue State as ‘ill-motivated and indefensible.’
In a statement personally signed and made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Makurdi on Wednesday the MD noted that the issue leading to the warning strike embarked upon by resident doctors in the state were the same issues National Resident Doctors, NARD and JOHESU went on strike.
He added that the issue was already been attended to by the federal government.
The resident doctors in Benue State had on Tuesday embarked on seven-day warning strike due to what they described as ‘inability of Benue State government and management of Federal Medical Center, Makurdi to meet their demands.’
The press statement issued and dated October 3rd, 2017 signed by Dr Obekpa Obekpa and Dr Nwaeze Chuwkwuemeka, chairman and secretary of the association respectively, a copy made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Makurdi had notified that the warning strike was necessitated by inability of the state government and management of Federal Medical Center, Makurdi to meet their demands.
The Medical Director said that he was not aware of any dispute with MDCAN and ARD, adding, ‘affiliates of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA are Medical and Dental Council Association of Nigeria, MDCAN and Association of Residents Doctors, ARD.’
He expressed concern on why Benue NMA declared a strike on issues involving affiliates without the affiliates declaring a dispute.
Peteru, however, submitted that management of Federal Medical Center, Makurdi was in the process of implementing all agreements reached with federal government.
