THE rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Professor Olatunde Faniran, has inaugurated a project, the Tertiary Institution Knowledge Centre, Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based classroom at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The project valued at N150 million was built by the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) and facilitated by the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Telecommunications, Honourable Saheed Akinade-Fijabi.
The facility is equipped with 50 desktop computers along with internet to help students in ICT courses.
Speaking at the inauguration, the rector applauded the courage of Honourable Fijabi for the project, describing him as one of the great alumni of the institution.
“The institution is 47 and has produced several graduates who have become captains of industries, governors, senators, and members of the House Representatives and House of Assembly members. But Fijabi is one out of several million who have decided to give back to his institution,” Fawole said.
In his remark, Fijabi, who represents Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Federal Constituency, Oyo State in the Resource Centre is in tune with the state’s mission to develop ICT to a level that will serve as a backbone of development in teaching, innovation, research, administration and service.
He said, “This is my alma mater; I should be able to give back to my institution. What I’m doing today is giving back to where I started from.
“Such projects are scattered all over Ibadan. We have another one in the University College Hospital (UCH), which is about N350 million. It is a digital classroom.
“I just believe whatever we can do to develop ourselves, we should be able to do it and facilitate it. I believe this project will bae used for the betterment of the students of The Polytechnic Ibadan.”
