Refusal of Olu of Oworo, Oba Mohammed Baiyerohi to reside in Agbaja his domain in Kogi State, Iwomasi ruling houses of Oworo Kingdom has petitioned the state House of Assembly for his dethronement.
This was contained in a petition which is dated 20 February 2020, with reference number AOM/TPC/IORDO/OW/01/02/20 by Iwomasi ruling houses of Oworo Kingdom and was addressed to Kogi State House of Assembly which a copy was made available to Tribune Online in Lokoja.
The ruling houses stated further that in Oworo kingdom, every Olu of Oworo must reside in Agbaja and reign from Agbaja but unfortunately, Mohammed Baiyerohi had flagrantly desecrated this reversed custom and tradition and refused to reside in Agbaja since his enthronement.
“The Plus of Oworo kingdom who had reigned from 1855 to 2002, over 147 years all resided in Agbaja and that even the regents who served from 2002 to 2010 also acted from Agbaja. Thereby maintaining Agabja status as the unifying point of Oworo people, being the headquarters if Oworo District.

“By history of Oworo kingdom it is only a dethroned and banished Olu that had ever lived in Lokoja, and that banished Olu is one Olu Etsy Musa who became high handed to his subjects and was therefore dethroned and banished to Lokoja,” the petition stated.
According to Iwomasi ruling houses in the petition, several meetings were held with Mohammed Baiyerohi since 2010, to bring him in tune with the customs and traditions of Oworo kingdom with the aim of making him move to reside in Agbaja to the extent that Oworo people were ready to mobilize find to build a Palace for him in Agbaja, Mohammed Baiyerohi refused to heed and he insisted that he will build a house for himself only for him to have trickily build a Palace in his ancestral village in Jakura, Lokoja.
The ruling house said the call for the dethronement of the traditional ruler is to avert looming large scale crisis on the grand of his discretion of customs and tradition of Oworo Kingdom.
According to the ruling houses., the traditional ruler has been accused of causing disaffection and disharmony among communities and people of Oworo Kingdom in Lokoja local government.
The ruling houses, therefore, called on the state House of Assembly to cause decisive disciplinary actions to be taken in accordance with the provisions of section 13 (1) of the Chiefs (Appointment, Deposition and Establishment of Traditional Council in Kogi State) Law, 2006.
The ruling houses said this is to avert looming large scale crisis in Oworo kingdom due to the misconduct of Mohammed Baiyerohi the current Olu of Oworo.
