Plateau State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects who defied the 24-hour curfew imposed by the state government to prevent miscreants from looting people’s properties.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, who disclosed this, stated that they were arrested on Dilimi and Bauchi roads in the Jos North local government area of the state while attempting to cause mayhem in the guise of a protest despite the curfew in place.
According to him, the miscreants have been effectively curtailed, adding that men of the command are fully on ground in the likely troubled spot within the state capital to deal with anyone who might want to cause trouble.
Meanwhile, Plateau State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Mr Musa Ashom, has stated that the state government was forced to declare a 24-hour curfew as a result of the activities of hoodlums who wanted to take advantage of the protest to loot people’s properties and wreak havoc.
Speaking with newsmen, Ashom said the hoodlums on Sunday were going about telling people to join the protest and threatened that anyone who refused to join them on Monday would be dealt with.
He stated that the Caleb Mutfwang-led government is a responsible one that takes precautionary measures seriously to ensure public safety, adding that the curfew has commenced with full force, with security operatives deployed to strategic areas across the metropolis.
The Commissioner added that the Governor has assured that the curfew will be reviewed or lifted as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
“For now, residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid any areas where security operatives are deployed, and cooperate with the authorities to ensure public safety.”
