A police officer identified as Hammed has been reportedly killed in a robbery attack that occurred at a Wema Bank branch located at Iragbiji, Boripe local government area of Osun State on Tuesday.
According to an eyewitness, scores of customers who were in the banking hall when the robbery took place on Tuesday afternoon were injured.
The robbers who were armed with sophisticated weapons including AK-47 rifles, charms, cutlasses arrived at the bank premises around 3.00 pm and shot sporadically into the air to scare away the passers-by before gaining entry into the banking hall.
It was gathered that explosives were used by the robbers to break the door of the bank.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Adebisi Adedokun hinted that the dead victim has been taken to an undisclosed hospital while those injured are receiving medical treatment.
The robbers were said to have carted away an undisclosed amount of money after which they fled the scene through Ada Road.
The remains of the police officer are said to still be at the scene of the incident as of the time of filing this report.
A police officer who spoke with our reporter on the condition of anonymity confirmed the incident while efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Yemisi Opalola, proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Daniel Adigun confirmed the incident.
