The long arms of the law have caught up with two suspected drug peddlers in the Mokwa local government area of Niger State, following their arrest by police operatives attached to the Mokwa Division of the State Police Command.
The arrest of the two suspects identified by the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun as 25-year-old Auta Umar Saidu and 52-year-old Mohammed Bala, adding that both of them were from Mokwa.
Abiodun, stated further in a Press statement issued and made available to Journalists on Sunday in Minna that the arrests of the two accomplices in crime occurred on September 6, 2023.
The statement added that their arrest was based on credible intelligence received by the police operatives attached to the Mokwa Division of the State Police Command over an attempt to ferry 16 bags of suspected Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) to Ndayako village in Mokwa LGA of the state.
He said, during interrogation, Auta allegedly confessed that he was sent by Bala to receive the bags containing the Indian hemp from one Lawali, who brought the items from Ondo State.
He added that Mohammed Bala was later arrested, stressing that both suspects allegedly confessed that the bags were meant for sale, noting that they had been in this illicit business together for almost eight months.
The image maker of the State Police Command further disclosed that the suspects have been transferred to State Criminals Investigation Department (SCID) Minna and they have been charged to court for prosecution.
