The two suspects, Oluwadamilare Akindoye and Sunday Adegoke, were apprehended by the residents of the area after perpetrating the criminal act and were handed over to the police.
Speaking on their arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Femi Joseph, explained that the youth in the community apprehended the suspects and handed them over to the police.
According to him, the duo was caught after carrying out the act in the early hours by some vigilant youths in the community.
He said the suspects were about leaving the community with the solar panel batteries before they were apprehended.
The PPRO disclosed that upon interrogation the suspects confessed to the crime and said two others member of the group have taken to their heels.
Joseph said: “On 12/08/2018 at about 06:00hrs, information was received that some men were being held by the youth of Erekiti Luwoye Community, Igbotako.

“Thus a team of policemen rushed to the community where two men were seen with the youths. On enquiring the youth leader named Ogunmakinwa Monday ‘m’ of 4, Olowodunjoye street, Erekiti near Igbotako stated that the men namely Oluwadamilare Akindoye ‘m’ aged 37 years of Lagos, Sunday Adegoke ‘m’ aged 28 years of Ilutitun under Okitipupa L.G.A were caught stealing solar light batteries provided for the community by the state government. The men were handed over to the Police.
“On interrogation, the suspects claimed that there were two others who had escaped before the arrival of the youths. Efforts are in progress to arrest the other fleeing culprits.”
