In an effort to restore peace to the troubled Mangu local government area of Plateau State, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army (NA) convened a peace and reconciliation meeting.
The meeting brought together stakeholders from the Mwaghavul and Fulani communities to address the ongoing crisis.
During the peace parley, General Abubakar provided a platform for both sides to express their grievances, aiming to understand the root causes of the attacks and reprisal attacks that have been occurring for the past three months.
He urged the parties involved to embrace peace, emphasizing the importance of peace for the development of Mangu. General Abubakar also appealed to them to lay down their weapons as a gesture of welcome to him on the Plateau.
The Commander pledged to extend the peace meeting to remote areas, ensuring that affected individuals and youth are sensitized about the need for peace.
He assured them of the willingness of the President and the state Governor to bring an end to the crisis and to compensate those who have been affected by the violence, thereby alleviating the impact on their lives.
Honourable Markus Artu, the chairman of the Mangu local government area, expressed his appreciation to General Abubakar for his presence in Mangu and his commitment to restoring peace in the region.
He urged both parties to embrace peace and to take the promises made by the Commander to heart, acknowledging the sacrifice he had made by relocating to Mangu to resolve the situation.
