All roads will lead to Mauve 21 events centre, Ibadan next Sunday as the seventh edition of the Pacesetters Entertainment and Recognition Awards (PERA) will hold.
The organising committee, in a press release to the Nigerian Tribune, revealed that they will be honouring Nollywood icon, Chief Lere Paimo this year with a special recognition award for his outstanding contribution in the movie industry for over fifty years.
According to the executive producer of PERA, Mr Rotimi Martins, better known as Alariwo of Africa, “We believe in a verse from our national anthem that says the labor of our heroes past shall never be in vain.
“Eda, as the movie icon is called, deserves to be celebrated while alive and not when he’s gone. Plans are already in top gear to give him an outstanding celebration, which will be exceptional and unforgettable. Baba is over 80 years of age and has brought happiness to our screens. This is our own way of showing appreciation by reciprocating his gesture.”
He continued, “Pera awards is about celebrating indigenes and residents who have made an indelible mark in their chosen careers.
Other awardees include Prince Adeyinka Afonja, the CEO of Ace Mall and supermarket, who will be honoured as the Man of the Year; Pharmacist Remi Omotosho of Bond Chemicals will be honoured as Businessman of the Year; Mrs Adesola Ige of Martha’s kitchen will be honoured with the catering amazon award, and Ebun Akinwale will be honored as the Entrepreneur of the Year”.
Explaining the rationale behind the honourary awards, he said, “One of the reasons that we believe that these people deserve these awards is because of the hard work that they put in by empowering and creating job opportunities for residents of the state.
“We, as a team, are passionate people at heart, and whatever we do, ensure the best of our capability by selecting the best in the state to recognise them with a special recognition award.
“Our organising committee does not leave any stone unturned whenever we are planning for annually. The event has been self-sponsored since its inception but eventually partnered Chief Mrs. Evelyn Omolara Farounbi, the CEO Marikina Fun Place and wife of Ambassador Yemi Farounbi (OON).
“The partnership opportunities with the Farounbis have been very encouraging and supportive in the past five years. Sponsorship has been our major challenge, and we have so many prominent people who are supposed to see these platforms as an opportunity to showcase their products by associating with us”.
The awards will host notable celebrities in the entertainment industry and for this year, is a black-tie event.
