The former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ebonyi State Chapter, Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi says he left PDP for the All Progressive Congress APC because PDP lacks internal democracy.
According to him, there are issues they would have discussed openly to feel the impulse of the people and what her members want.
Nwebonyi stated this in Abakaliki while thanking Governor David Umahi for appointing him Commissioner for Capital City Development barely two days of his defection.
“More errors I’ve seen in PDP is that they lack internal democracy because, if they are not lacking internal democracy, there are issues they would have been discussing openly to feel the impulse of the people, to get the inputs of the people, to know what the members of the party want.
“I’m very happy to quit PDP because is a party filled with injustice. You can see that the party is taking the Igbo race for granted, remember, the Igbo race contributed 70% towards the formation of PDP in the year 1998 and each time, we’ve remained resolute, we’ve remained committed to the course of the party, then, we had always delivered the party in all elections and it goes with the saying that comes 2023 is the turn of the Igbo race to produce a Presidential candidate of the party, unfortunately, and most amazingly, they said that the ticket is over.
“Why? it is now the turn of the Igbo and you made it open, whereas when it was the turn of South-West, you zoned it to South-West, when it became the turn of the North, it was zoned to the North. Now it is the turn of the South-East and you are saying it is over, it is a height of deceit.
Nwebonyi however assured of his total commitment towards serving the State government, to make sure that in taking the modern city of Ebonyi State to the desired next level.
“My focus is of so many facets: one, we are going to clean the city (environmentally, the city is not receiving the due attention in terms of environmental sanitation to complement what the Governor is doing). So, we are going to reverse the monthly sanitation exercise.
“Upon assumption of office in the year 2015, he appointed me the Co-ordinator of my Local Government. Seven months later, I was elevated with the State Chairman of PDP and two days ago, I resigned my membership of PDP, I joined the All Progressive Congress and he has now blessed me with another position as Honourable Commissioner in Charge of the Abakaliki Capital City.”
“So, we are going to go back to the drawing board and make sure that the city is properly designed not just for today but for tomorrow.”
