There was a clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) in Gombe State over the weekend, leading to the attack on the convoy of the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwabo.
Also, many properties including a private radio station, Progress FM, were destroyed, while many people were reportedly injured during the fracas.
The clash was confirmed by the state police command during a press briefing on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mary Malum.
It was gathered that the clash occurred in the state capital during a rally organised by the PDP to welcome the governor back to Gombe from Abuja.
Chairman of Media and Publicity of the PDP Campaign Council, Dahiru Hassan Kera, alleged that the thugs attacked the governor’s convoy on his way from the airport, adding that two cars in the governor’s convoy were burnt. He also disclosed that the development made the governor to cancel a rally organised to welcome him back to the state.
While reacting to the incident, the state chapter of APC) accused the PDP of breaching the peace accord which was earlier signed by all the political parties in the state.
According to him, about 20 people were injured but have been treated and discharged from the various hospitals in Gombe.
