Passport backlogs: Nigerians hail Interior Minister’s 2-week ultimatum to Immigration

Nigerians on social media have reacted following a recent move by the Honorable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to ensure that all pending passport application backlogs are cleared in the next two weeks.

In the move, which aimed at addressing the delay in issuance of passport and immigration document after applications, the minister recently met with the acting comptroller general of immigration, Adepoju Carol, and managing director of Iris Smart Technologies, Yinka Fisher, regarding the backlog of over 200,000 international passports.

In the meeting, the minister gave a marching order demanding the swift clearance of the over 200,000 backlog of passports in two weeks.

Posting pictures from the meeting on his official X account on Thursday, he captioned, “As part of swift measures to remove all bottlenecks in the acquisition of passports and immigration documents, I engaged service providers to the immigration service to ensure the backlogs of applications are cleared within the next two weeks.”

However, hundreds of Nigerians on X have flooded the post’s comment section to pour encomiums on the minister over the development.

According to them, the move is a good step in the right direction in ensuring an end to the frustration and inconvenience that countless Nigerians have faced due to delays in acquiring essential travel and immigration documents.
