The Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Babangida Usman has been promoted to the rank of an Assistant Comptroller General, just as a new Comptroller, Safiya Mohammed Kudu assumed duty on Monday.
In a send-off ceremony held at the headquarters of the command in Ibadan on Tuesday, the promoted officer expressed appreciation towards officers and men for working with him as a team despite few obstacles experienced.
Usman, who also said that he appreciated the tremendous support, encouragement and guidance shown to him, commented on how he enjoyed working in a friendly atmosphere where love and honour were displayed during the nine months he spent in the command.
He also thanked the state governor, Seyi Makinde for the support he rendered to him and the command through the donation of two pick-up vans to the Oyo NIS.
ACG Usman praised colleagues and other security agencies in the state for their support and advice in relation to state security, adding that the skills and knowledge learnt would be useful to him.
āI find it difficult that Iām leaving people who have been useful to me from the first day I assumed duties in Oyo command. I canāt forget those who supported and made me what I am today,ā he stated.
He has been posted to the NIS headquarters in Abuja.
Also promoted to the position of a Comptroller was the erstwhile Deputy Comptroller of the command, Adepeju Lawal, who had also been posted out.
Meanwhile, the new Comptroller, Kudu, who assumed duty on Monday, has said that the Service will resume attending to new applicants for international passports.
Kudu, who was also part of the ceremony for the promoted officers, also told the Nigerian Tribune that backlog of passport booklets were being given to awaiting applicants.
It will be recalled that the immigration service suspended fresh passport applications to ensure that the applications in backlog were cleared.
The Comptroller said that clearing of the backlog was one of the priorities of the Comptroller General, Muhammad Babandede, which was emphasised before she assumed duty.
āMost passport offices have got the passport booklets to clear the backlog, and a lot of applicants are waiting to collect their booklets.
āThey have been doing so since morning, and you will see them around even till night because we want to ensure that everyone gets their passport.
āOver the weekend, we were able to produce over 3,000 out of the backlog we have. So, by today till probably Thursday, it will be cleared so that it will give room for new applications to be attended to,ā she stressed.
During the send-off ceremony, she eulogised ACG Usman for setting good precedence in the command, while describing him as a dedicated and hardworking officer.
