The remains of the late Oyo state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barr Isaac Ajiboye Omodewu, have been committed to Mother Earth in his country home, Otu, in the Itesiwaju local government area, with the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, ably represented by the Deputy National Chairman (Southwest Zone, Isaac Kekemeke), the three Senators representing Oyo State, Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North), Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central), Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South), and former Slpvenate Leader and governorship candidate of the party in the state, Teslim Folarin, in attendance.
Also in attendance were the former Chairman of Nigeria Communication Commission, Adeolu Akande, two former Oyo Deputy Governors, Rauf Olaniyan and Moses Adeyemo; Hon. Aderemi Oseni, Secretary of APC in the state, Tajudeen Olanite; the former state chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Abass Aleshinloye; and the spokesperson of the party, Olawale Sadare, and a host of others.
Omodewu had served the state and the party in various capacities during his lifetime, including Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters and later Commissioner for Lands and Housing in the administration of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
In his message at the burial event, Ganduje, who was represented by the APC Deputy National Chairman, Isaac Kekemenke, described his death as a colossal loss, noting his contribution to the electoral success of the party in the region.
While consoling members of his immediate family and the party as a whole, he urged them to take solace in Omodewu’s death, noting that death is inevitable.
According to him, “APC at the national level will make sure Oyo APC remains one so as to achieve its aims and objectives.”
In his remarks, Senator Alli described Omodewu as a dedicated and committed party man who worked tirelessly to rebuild APC in the state.
He stated that the deceased was an astute administrator, adding that the party is going to miss him because his effort and contributions cannot be overemphasised.
Also speaking, Senator Buhari described his death as a great loss to the party, stating that the deceased has left a legacy that can never die.
“He tried his best for our party; he won three senatorial seats and nine House of Representatives seats for us despite having a sitting governor who belongs to the opposition party.
Meanwhile, as the remains of the Omodewu were lowered into the grave, emotions ran high as mourners struggled to hold back their tears.
In his sermon, one of the ministers, Rev. John Oyelade from the Foundation of Peace Baptist Church, Oyo town, described Omodewu as a kind man who had touched many lives while alive.
He urged Nigerian leaders to always be good to their followers because “life is short. Omodewu’s death should be a lesson and an eye-opener for everybody.
“We must know that death is a reminder of a day of reckoning; death gives us the opportunity of repentance.”
