Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of Nigeria, will on Thursday, this week, inaugurate the New National Taxpayer Identification Number Registration System and Consolidated TaxPayers’ Database in Anambra state.
Prof. Osinbajo is also expected to launch the Stamp Duties Office and Revenue Stamps respectively in Anambra state.
Disclosing this to Tribune Online at the Revenue House Awka on Tuesday, the Deputy Director and Head TaxPayers’ Education and Enlightenment Team (TEET) of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Mrs. Sylvia Tochukwu Ngige, said the Vice President is expected to perform the inauguration ceremony of the event for the Southeast region in the state.
She said Anambra state was selected for the ground-breaking ceremony because of the tranquil business environment Governor Willie Obiano has created in the state.
She also noted that the forthcoming event was a tripartite arrangement between the National Joint Tax Board, Anambra State Government as well as the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service.

The AIRS TEET head added that the state revenue service has harmonised tax payment system in the state such that tax remittances were currently done electronically using what she mentioned as Tax Identification Number (TIN) which only the agency issued to eligible taxpayers.
She, however, recalled the porosity of tax collection in the state, when, according to her, government money went into private pockets because of the analogue system and multiplicity of tax agents but expressed satisfaction that the new Anambra Internal Revenue Service headed by Dr David Nzekwu has streamlined and harmonised tax collection system such that people no longer did cash transactions with agents but did so electronically.
The AIRS official said the agency introduced what she described as the Anambra State Social Identity Number (ANSSID) to enable the revenue service know who eligible taxpayers are, stressing that payment receipts, tax clearance certificates and other vital documents from the internal revenue service were no longer issued by hand but through electronic means.
She added that the state ANSSID number addressed the issues of double and multiple taxations as well as the issuance of fake receipts to taxpayers in Anambra state.
