The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha, Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Nyesom Wike, Nasiru El-Rufai, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and Hope Uzodinma of Delta, Rivers, Kaduna, Jigawa and Imo states respectively, on Sunday, stormed Effurun, Delta State for the Thanksgiving Service of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
Prof Osibanjo, in his remarks, commended the courage of the President of the Senate, Omo-Agege for emerging victorious in the last 2019 senatorial election in spite of all odds.
The thanksgiving mass was held in honour of Omo-Agege at the Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church, Effurun.
Omo-Agege, it will be recalled, emerged winner in the Delta Central Senatorial District election held on February 23, 2019.
Osinbajo, while eulogising the Deputy President of Senate, described him as courageous, reliable and loyal.
“Brilliant and bright as a Lawyer is not sufficient to win an electron in rugged terrain. Omo-Agege has just described this place as rugged and everybody know.

“Omo-Agege came not just with brilliance but with enough courage, loyalty and reliability to start first as a politician and secondly as Deputy President of the Senate.
“He might not be doing justice to everybody but the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan and himself were the unanimous choices of most of us.
“His courage, loyalty and steadfastness, not only was he rewarded by his constituent but also by the leadership of our great party and the Ninth Senate.
“With your loyalty to the party and steadfastness, I am convinced that we are going to see much from you,” he said.
The President of the Senate, Lawan, on his part, said that the National Assembly would work harmoniously with the executive arm to provide good governance to the people.
“We are here to thank God for the blessing he bestowed on us and also for having one of us as the Deputy President of the Senate.
“The Senate is one, we have all the principal officers present here irrespective of their political parties.
“Election is over it is now time for governance. I am happy that our governors are working with President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle our challenges.
“Those of us in the position of authority, we must pray and work, that is what God wants us to do.
“So we in the Senate, we have since decided to work hand in hand in a harmonious manner with the executive arm of government. We may have a different perspective on issues,” he said.
Governor Okowa also commended Omo-Agege for his sagacity and astuteness as a virile politician from oil-rich Delta.
He charged Omo-Agege and other lawmakers at the National Assembly to use their positions to attract Federal Government’s presence to the state.
The Very Rev Father Anthony Ozele, in his Homily, commended Omo-Agege for giving thanks to God, noting that there was a lot of rewards attached to Thanksgiving.
“Remember where you come from. We need the Federal Government’s presence in Delta. The moribund Delta ports should be revived. Aladja Steel should be revived. Be wise, steadfast and courageous. Reach out to all political divides. Above all, we should pray for Nigeria,” he said.
Elated Omo-Agege, in his remarks, attributed his political victory to the Almighty God. He said that it was by the grace of God that he emerged victorious in the last senatorial poll and as Deputy President of the Senate.
“If it had been the wish of man, it would have been difficult for me to emerged winner considering our rugged terrain. We are working with President Buhari to provide good governance,” he said.
Other dignitaries at the event were national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Silva, Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senate George Akume, Festus Keyamo, Minister, State Labour and former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State.
Others were Senators Ibikunle Amosun, James Manager, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, Dr Cairo Ojougboh (NDDC, EDP), Rev Francis Waive, Olorogun Ovie Omo-Agege among others.
Among traditional rulers from Delta State present included 103-year-old chairman of the Forum of Urhobo Traditional Rulers and Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, HRM Ovie Ogbon, Ogoni 1, Orodje of Okpe, Olu of Warri, Ovie of Uvwie, Ovie of Agbon, Ovie of Agbarha-Otor and others.
