A group known as “Benue Youth Forum” on Thursday, called on the state council of chiefs to sanction the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator George Akume over his attack on Governor Samuel Ortom.
In a statement issued and signed by its president, Terrence Kuanum, the group said that sanctioning him would serve as a deterrent to others who are against the Benue people.
Senator Akume had, on Monday, at a press conference in Abuja accused Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom of ineptitude, disrespecting the president, Muhammad Buhari and alleged massive corruption in his administration.
Reacting to these allegations, Kuanum called on traditional rulers to place heavy sanctions on the minister, adding that the former governor of the state did not represent the interest of the people of Benue.
“We call on the revered Benue State Council of Chiefs to swiftly take drastic action by placing heavy sanctions on Sen. George Akume and his co-travellers to serve as a deterrent to others.
“As the umbrella body of Benue youths, we have seen that the minister does not represent the interest of our people but his own personal and selfish interest.
” From today, we disown Akume and call on President Buhari to sack the Minister with immediate effect and replace him with a credible Benue son or daughter.
“We will not accept sabotage from any son of Benue in the struggle to liberate our people. The objective is clear that we will protect our people with any commiserate measure of action taken against us since no one including our very own working with our enemies but have sadly become moles amongst us,” Kuanum said
The group leader called on all Benue people to be on alert and be vigilant in their communities and should not hesitate to report any suspicious movement around their neighbourhoods, saying, “It is now obvious that our enemies are living amongst us and we must redouble our efforts to be safe.
On the government privatization programme, the group applauded the state government describing the policy as the best global practice.
