The Ondo State Task Force on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs has arrested the owner of a patent medicine store for selling Tramadol and other controlled drugs.
The Taskforce also sealed off seven pharmaceutical stores in the state for stocking and selling controlled and expired drugs.
The affected patent medicine shops were sealed for offences bordering on operations without a license, engaging unqualified persons to man and dispense drugs to unsuspecting members of the public.
Speaking on the arrest of the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Pharmacist Folukemi Aladenola, said the owner of a patent medicine store was arrested during a routine by the team.
Aladenola said all the stores are within Akure, the state capital saying they were all closed by the State Task Force on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs.
She disclosed that some of the expired drugs and controlled drugs were kept inside the toilet by their owners of the medicine stores.
Aladenola explained that the team discovered the drugs during the unscheduled visit to the medicine stores, saying the routine became necessary to tackle the menace of fake and counterfeit drugs in the state.
According to her, the task force discovered that many pharmaceutical stores did not comply with laid down rules and regulations.
She said the affected stores would be sanctioned by the state government while their operational licenses would be withdrawn among other sanctions.
