Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved 14 aspirants, from Ondo Central and North senatorial districts, Hon Mayokun-Alade Laf, said they were sidelined and excluded from participating in the primary, alleging the party leadership in the state of being behind their predicament.
According to Laf, most of the aspirants would have preferred to lose during a free, fair and credible primary election rather than the leadership of the party imposing candidates on the people and members of the party.
He said “all we are asking for is a free and fair election, we don’t want any imposition. Let the member of the party decide their candidates and the leaders should stop all these impositions
“Giving room to internal democracy is one of the beauties of democracy. What we are fighting for is the glory of democracy and progression.
“We are the progressives party but we refuse to lay good examples and dump the ideology and principles of good progressives.
“We are not going to opt out of APC but we are not going to work for anybody during the general election. I and my people have resolved to stay on the fence to watch what is going to happen and see if they can impose to win the election on their own.”
Laf stated that no primary election was conducted across the two local government of Akure South and North Local Government Area of the state and alleged leaders of the party of imposing an unpopular candidate on the people.
“There was no election at all, only for the leaders to come up with names of their favoured aspirants. The state leaders are protesting against the imposition of Sen Ajayi Boroffice representing Ondo North Senatorial District and what do we call what they did at the state level.”
“We can’t get it right if this is how the state government want to continue. We need to learn from PDP, they organised a rancour-free election and not with a divided house
He, however, appealed to the national leadership of the party to quickly intervene or “we will work against APC and we will ensure the party lose in 2019.
“We have to conduct a new primary because at the end of the day if there was no primary that means APC will go to the general elections without candidates.”
