On face masks

The rate at which the Covid-19 is spreading in Nigeria is alarming and it is a big a threat to the nation as a whole.  The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), is trying its best to sensitise the public and urge Nigerians to stay safe by following laid down guidelines on social distancing and wearing of face masks to save our lives because Nigeria has lost many of her citizens including prominent politicians to Covid-19.

Since it is difficult to identify Covid-19 carriers in Nigeria because many are asymptomatic, we can only prevent the spread of the disease by following the rules; wearing our face masks and avoiding close contact. Though there has been strict compliance of wearing of face masks within government agencies and organised private sector, many people in the society especially in unorganised sectors; traders particularly the food sellers, motorcyclists and commercial drivers do not comply with this regulation.

This is the right time to call on the both the Federal and State governments to take a decisive steps on this by coming up with the new strategies to enforce the wearing of face masks by all Nigerians. If the government close its eyes to this, it means we are going to record more cases and deaths. Government is expected to compel Nigerians to wear face masks at this crucial time.

Covid-19 has killed over 620 Nigerians because we are still treating it as a joke, it is time government faces this and seriously implement laws to enforce guidelines.
