Omoyele Sowore has announced that he will contest Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, positioning himself once again as an alternative to the country’s dominant political establishment.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sowore confirmed that he plans to run under the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2027, revealing that the party’s presidential primaries are scheduled for next week.
According to Sowore, Nigeria’s long-standing political elite bear responsibility for the nation’s deepening economic hardship, insecurity, and widespread poverty.

He argued that many of the country’s prominent political figures — including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi — represent ideas and policies that have failed Nigerians over the years.
Sowore said the country remains trapped in “poverty, insecurity, pain, sorrow and tears” because of the style of leadership that has dominated governance since the return to democracy.
The activist-turned-politician maintained that his movement represents a new political direction focused on accountability, systemic reforms, social justice, and greater inclusion of young Nigerians in governance.
Sowore previously contested the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, campaigning on anti-corruption reforms, citizen-focused governance, and institutional restructuring.
