CHAIRMAN of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention Planning Committee, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has assured party leadership and members of a the conduct of successful non-elective conventionĀ on Saturday.
Presiding over the maiden meeting of the committee at the national secretariat of the party in AbujaĀ on Wednesday, he said the party leadership had already done a lot towards the conduct of the exercise.
According to him, even though the period the committee has to carry out the assignment was short, it would however come up with a convention that the party would be proud of.
He said: “We are confident on our own that though the days are short but because we are an organized party we will definitely be able to deliver the convention that we will be proud of as a party.
“I have trust in the ability of our leaders, the chairmen and secretaries of all the committees that we will be able to do a good job.”
The convention which comes up of at the Eagle Square, Abuja, is likely to approve proposed amendments to the party constitution as well as extend the tenure of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the party to give them enough time to organize an elective national convention.
Meanwhile, Makarfi has sworn in the standing Disciplinary Committee of the party led by former Foreign Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi.
Speaking before the ceremony at the national secretariat of the party the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, explained that the personnel chosen for the assignment were men of proven integrity who cannot be swayed.
He said: “What we are doing here today is simply to swear in members of the Disciplinary Committee in line with the provisions of our party’s constitution.
“They were carefully selected and we have found them to be people of proven integrity who cannot be swayed by any means whatsoever.”
Members of the committee present at the swearing-in ceremony included the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Austin Opara; ex-Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Onyeama Ugochukwu; erstwhile PDP National Woman Leader, Hajia Inna Ciroma and former military administrator, Colonel Bala Mohammed Mande (retd).
