As Africa’s leading scholar and professor of robotics, Bart Nnaji celebrates his 67th birthday, the apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, is jubilant in honour of this esteemed Igbo figure.

Ohanaeze expressed their heartfelt wishes to Prof. Nnaji and prayed for many more fruitful years. Dr Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, the Ohanaeze National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement to the press, excerpts of which are as follows:

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide joins numerous well-wishers, both at home and in the diaspora, in congratulating an Igbo icon, erudite scholar, robotic engineer, industrialist, and two-time minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Bart Nnaji, CON, on the occasion of his 67th birthday.

“Prof. Nnaji is a visionary; a rare Nigerian who has dedicated his intellect to the well-being of the Nigerian citizenry. In a time when many Nigerian engineers and scientists have succumbed to political opportunism, hypocrisy, and flattery, Nnaji has remained focused on harnessing indigenous resources and the potential for sustainable national development.

The distinguished professor of engineering recently announced that ‘the 188-megawatt Geometric Power plant in the Osisioma Industrial Layout in Aba, Abia State, will start to generate electricity within two months.’

He added that the ‘generation of electricity from the Geometric Power plant will be a game-changer in the socioeconomic development of not just Aba city but also nine out of the 17 local government areas in Abia State serviced by Aba Power, a member of Geometric group.’

“Nnaji, a Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, is globally renowned for his expertise in Computer-Aided Design, Robotics, and Computer-Aided Engineering. He introduced the concept known globally as ‘geometric reasoning,’ emphasizing that most things we operate have a geometric configuration.

He is also credited as one of the innovators of the E-design concept, which enables product design engineers to collaborate remotely in designing, assembling, and testing the same product using computers and the internet.

“In the socio-political arena, Nnaji has served as a minister in the Federal Republic of Nigeria on two occasions, former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power (June 2010 – July 2011), Special Adviser to the President on Power (June 2010 – July 2011), former Member of the Presidential Advisory Council, former Director of the US National Science Foundation Centre for e-Design at the University of Pittsburgh, former Kepler Whiteford Professor of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, USA, former Alcoa Foundation Professor of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, USA, among several other distinguished positions.

“The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Engr. Dr Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, CFR (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo), in his fervour to redirect the thought process of the Igbo people towards a domestic industrial renaissance, takes great delight in individuals with turn-key initiatives like Prof. Bart Nnaji. Iwuanyanwu urges our scientists, technologists, and engineering professors to emulate Bart Nnaji for a prosperous Igbo land.

“Chief Iwuanyanwu, on behalf of all the structures of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, wishes our son, Prof. Bart Nnaji, a long life filled with joy and happiness.”
