The Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, on Thursday, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 300-housing-unit project in the Obasanjo, Sabo area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The initiative is part of the administration’s drive towards urban expansion and the delivery of affordable housing to the people.
The low- and medium-income housing project is part of the local government’s vision for the Abeokuta New Town Development Project, aimed at bringing new development to the city centre by providing decent shelter for residents.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the LG chairman emphasised the local government’s commitment to bridging the housing deficit while opening up the city centre for new infrastructure.
He said, “The estate, which will comprise a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units tailored for both low- and middle-income earners, will be named in honour of the Executive Governor of Ogun State as the ‘Prince Dapo Abiodun Low and Medium Cost Housing Estate.’”

He lauded the governor for his unwavering support for grassroots development and his administration’s housing revolution across the state, evident at King’s Court in Kobape, Prince Court in Kemta, and the Ibara Regeneration Housing Scheme, among others.
He noted that naming the estate after the governor is a tribute to his dedication to housing development and people-centred governance.
The Abeokuta New Town Development Project is designed to open up new residential and commercial hubs through strategic planning and public-private partnerships.
The 300-unit estate is the flagship project of the initiative and is expected to be completed in phases.
With this move, Abeokuta North takes a significant step forward in transforming its housing landscape and providing hope for thousands seeking affordable homeownership.
