In a letter sent to the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission from the Office of the Director General/Founder of The Nigerian Federation of Social Scientist (NIFESS) on Thursday 19th October 2023, Amb. Ini Stephen Oghenekaro the Director General of NiFESS urges the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development commission to include Social Sciences Post Graduate Courses on the list of Courses for the 2023/2024 NDDC Post Graduate Scholarship.
The NiFESS boss desires an inclusion of Social Sciences Discipline in the considerations of the NDDC and far beyond the NDDC, Ini Stephen highlights the importance of Social Sciences discipline in the growth and development of the Economy of our dear Nation. In his letter, he stated;
“The Social Sciences Discipline forms an integral part of our country’s professional human capital, it is the Social Scientist that determines the success of an economy and for Nigeria to become that Nation we desire, we have to become much more intentional about our Social Sciences Human Capital.”
This is a call to the Federal Government to implement programs that drives the improvement of the Social Sciences Human Capital of Nigeria, to equip professionals of Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, International Relations, Public Administration and other professionals with the requisite knowledge to cause growth and development for Nigeria.
The Director General of NiFESS also strongly recommended courses the NDDC boss should immediately consider for the NDDC Post Graduate Scholarship, these courses are:
Economics, Sociology and International Relations.
The Director General of NiFESS also requested that the inclusion of Social Sciences Courses into the list of Courses for Entries should follow suit with an extension of the application deadline to meet up with the time lap from the day the NDDC Post Graduate Scholarship Program was announced as the general deadline is fast approaching.
This letter resonates the purpose, Aim and Objectives of the Nigerian Federation of Social Scientist which includes;
1. To unite every graduate, undergraduate and post Graduate students of any social sciences discipline across Nigeria.
2. To serve as the umbrella body to regulate the affairs of Social Sciences discipline in Nigeria.
3. To advocate for the rights of Social Scientist in Nigeria.
4. To create a uniform platform where Social Scientist across Nigeria can amplify their voices.
5. To organize research summits and conferences to improve the field of Social Sciences and produce results to improve the Socio-Economic value of Nigeria.
6. To organize the Nigerian National Economic conference.
7. To create a platform where every discipline in Social Sciences can be valued professionally across Nigeria.
8. To create a fellowship for professionals and academics of Social Sciences.
9. To institutionalize the school of public policy and governance for Nigerian social scientist
10. To represent Nigeria in the global social science community.
The NiFESS boss seeks the corporation of the NDDC boss in creating opportunities for Social Sciences Graduates in the Niger Delta region by impacting their lives through the NDDC post graduate scholarship scheme.
