National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has observed that the statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo declaring President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as a failure has rendered the All Progressive Congress (APC) government a lame duck.
He made the assertion when he met with former PDP Ministers Forum in Abuja on Thursday.
The party boss said the APC has failed the nation, saying that the onus is now on the PDP to save the country.
According to him, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP is putting measures in place to ensure that it retrieves power from the ruling party in next year’s election.
He said: “The NWC is also putting all the necessary strategies together, and we assure that come 2019, that Nigerians will vote for PDP. APC has failed woefully.
“Our nation is in a situation where PDP must save this nation from total collapse, the government of APC has become lame dog after the former President Obasanjo has released a political tsunami and verdict on the government.”
The party national chairman assured that under his watch, the PDP will be inclusive and will abide by the constitution while ensuring that no impunity will be condoned.
He added: “We shall be engaging most of you even at emergency level. As we move, it will be so dynamic in nature.
“We have opened the party up. No one single person owns this party. No one single individual can direct. It must be a collective leadership. That is what is going to give us victory.”
Secondus revealed plans by the party to embark on a massive membership drive and the established of online members registration.
In his remarks, Chairman of Former Ministers Forum, Kabiru Turaki, blasted the APC as a political platform without foundation.
According to him, “We said it that there are only two political parties, PDP and the rest. Even the ones that people thought were political parties, people have realized that they are mere association and clubs that have come together, wrecking havoc on our democracy. Nigerians are seeing them for what they are.
“I want to call on you to open your doors very wide because all those that are real politicians, all those that are democrats will come back home and we are ready for them.
“As you begin your crusade of saving democracy in Nigeria, crusade of saving Nigeria from hunger, from poverty, from insecurity, from hopelessness and joblessness, it should be at the back of your mind that the colossal knowledge, experience and technical know-how at the disposal of the former ministers are there for you to tap.
“Whenever people criticise PDP, they are not criticising PDP for what it has done or has not done for the party, they are criticizing PDP for what it has done in government.
“So, the best set of people that are positioned to respond to those kinds of criticisms would be those who have served in government. These are people that have knowledge of what was done and what has not been done.
“And these are the people who are aware of why those decisions, some of which have been very painful, had to be taken in the overall interest of Nigeria.
“So, we are there to take up issues, to respond to issues, to talk about the issues so that the proper narratives would be brought before Nigerians.”
He assured the party boss of the forum’s maximum support to the party, adding “we have heard of your agenda of taking the party back to the people. I want to assure you on behalf of the former Ministers that when you move into the trenches, you will meet us there waiting for you.”
