ABOUT 18 Nigerians who have contributed significantly to the society are billed to receive the distinguished Nigerian award of a leading online news platform in Delta State
The platform, Oasis Magazine, says the choice of the personalities for the 2024 award was based on merit and contribution to humanity.
The awardees include the vice chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, Divisional Police officer in Ekpan, CSP Aliyu Shaba, human right activist, Daniel Abere and deputy speaker of Delta House of Assembly, Hon Arthur Akpowowo, among others.
Addressing a press conference in Asaba, publisher of Oasis Magazine, Mr Daniel Umukoro said the event scheduled for tomorrow, in Asaba has no monetary attachment to the awardees as “it is being done in line with status conferral of the mass media.”
X-raying the pedigree of the recipients, Umokoro argued that Professor Egwunyenga has placed the university on high pedestal of learning and research, making it a university of the future and first choice for candidates seeking admission into higher institutions.
According to him, the anti-workers posture of the past administrations in the institution was eliminated by the outgoing vice chancellor who also entrenched peace between management and students.
The publisher said the police spokesman SP Dafe, is known for being proactive and readily available to give information to journalists and other members of the public while the human right activist had dared authorities as a man who does not want to be in good books of anyone to remain relevant.
The theme of the award ceremony, ‘Artificial intelligence and contemporary media space, a great new world of ethics and engagement will be delivered by Professor Jonathan Tsetimi of the Centre for Research and International Programme, Delta State University, Abraka as guest speaker.
