Comrade Chukwudozie Chika Grace, a mathematics teacher at the Catholic Girls’ Secondary School Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State has emerged as the State Chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Anambra State wing.
Chukwudozie won with 152 votes to defeat her opponent, Onyegbosi Ngozi, who got 38 votes in an open ballot contest.
She is expected to pilot the affairs of the Union for a period of four years.
Expressing delight over the conduct of the election/ 9th (7th quadrennial) delegates conference of the union held at the teacher’s House Awka, on Tuesday 29th August 2023 the incoming chairman, Chukwudozie , who will be taking over from Comrade Nonye Chibueze, thanked the electoral committee for ensuring a free and fair election.
She said, “I feel so good, today’s election was peaceful and democratically rooted. Before now, I, members of the winning team, and some members from the state and national wing of our great union, had not been fully convinced that the election would take this sort of fairness. But I can only thank the returning officers I equally thank Anambra Teacher for seeing me as someone who will carry them along.
“Members under the NUT, Anambra State Wing, have been a unique family and would not allow the result of an election, either way it may seem affect its humanness and active trade unionism; as the running of the Union will be equally inclusive and accessible,” she stated.
The Chairman, while commending the State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for his love for education and teachers promised to work in partnership with the State Government to see to the improvement of teaching and learning in all the public schools both primary and secondary in the state.
Meanwhile, other elected officers included: Branch Deputy Chairman, Comrade Nwoye Solomon Chinedu; State Treasurer, Comrade Nriagu Ndidi Patricia; 1st Vice Chairman, Comrade Uzoh Ikenna Christian; 2nd Vice Chairman, Comrade Ozoemena Fanny; 3rd Vice Chairman, Comrade Onwugaje Ejike Valerian; 4th Vice Chairman, Comrade Okeke Amauchechukwu; State Social Secretary, Comrade Ohaebosim Uju Ann; Assistant Social Secretary, Comrade Nwafor Angela Chinyeaka; State National Rep., Comrade Ugwor Maria; Internal Auditor 1, Comrade Egbochue Victoria; Internal Auditor 2, Comrade Orji Anthonia Eziamaka; State Editor, Comrade Nwokedi Anastacia Obiageli; State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ofodile Ifeoma Juliana; Un-official member 1, Comrade Ogumelu Eucharia; Un-official member 2, Comrade Nwator Simon and Un-official member 3, Comrade Umenwa Paschal.
Tribune Online gathered that the newly elected officers were immediately inaugurated shortly after the election that ended at about 7:09 pm by the NUT national delegates, led by Bar. Okechukwu Okoroafor.
