The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) announced on Monday that it will hold its National Delegates Conference (NDC) in April 2025, where new national officials will be elected to pilot the affairs of the union.
NUP National President, Comrade Godwin Abumisi, disclosed this during the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
He emphasised the importance of the forthcoming elections, describing them as critical for the union’s progress.
Abumisi also revealed that the Kano State government has graciously pledged its support for the senior citizens in their preparations to host the election in the state capital.
Additionally, he announced that the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has promised a swift implementation of the recently approved N32,000 pension increase. He urged the newly appointed PTAD Executive Secretary (ES) to ensure the implementation serves as a Christmas gift for Nigerian pensioners.
In her remarks, the new PTAD Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, commended the NUP leadership and its members for their cooperation and pledged to work closely with them. She reassured the union that PTAD is committed to improving the welfare of senior citizens, promising efficient implementation of all Federal Government-approved pension increments.
Odunaiya also noted that PTAD is working diligently to ensure the inclusion of pensioners from the Federal Mortgage Bank and the Ministry of Finance into the agency’s payroll.
She reiterated PTAD’s commitment to treating pensioners with respect and dignity, emphasizing that their welfare remains the agency’s top priority. “The pensioners are the very reason PTAD exists, and we will not falter in our duty to ensure their needs are met,” she stated.
