The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has revealed plans to resume Lagos-Kano train service on August 13, 2021.
Speaking with Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday under the condition of anonymity, one of NRC top official said the long hours narrow gauge train trips was the flagship of the Corporation which has been in existence for over 90 years.
“This is not new, it has been in existence for over 90 years now, and is our flagship before the standard gauge started springing up.
“It takes 90 hours from Lagos to Kano, we provide water and toilet facilities on board while passengers take care of themselves.
“It is an enjoyable journey that anyone going on a tour will enjoy very well because you sleep and wake up in the train, Wash your face and do all of that on board the train.”
He stated that the train journey to Kano is well secured as “there is always security onboard the train that can foil any attempt to disrupt the train operations.
“Each coach have two armed police, they also have men of Man O War and right now, the men of Civil Defence Corps are also joining the security team on the train.
“So each coach is well equipped to fight any terror that the train may encounter in the course of the journey. It is actually difficult to attack a moving train” he stated.
Our source also revealed that the journey may cost travellers less than N2500 as fare per trip.
The resumption of Lagos-Kano train service is an indication of the Federal government efforts to revitalize all railway routes across the country and indeed keep them functional while constructing new modem of rail system in Nigeria.
