No to biased referees

Last week we saw the latest scandal between APC and the INEC, a big argument over the identity Amina Zakari. There are three main arguments I have seen in the APC defensebut looking at the first two; she is only a relation through marriage and she is very qualified for this position.

Before we reach these arguments, let me lay out my grievance with the president. Buhari is a man of his people, not of the people. When he can’t win people through his identity, he makes promises to you based on your identity. So when we see family members appointed to powerful positions, I do not care for one second how she is related to the president.

On the second point, I do not think Zakari can be qualified. For this position in this moment, you need brains, but you also need honour. She could be the smartest woman in Nigeria, if she is in a position to tear this country apart, her honour should compel her to refuse the appointment. There are many important jobs that need qualified candidates. Maybe she can be put in charge of resolving the minimum wage disaster, the education strikes or the corruption in our military.

We have too many crises in this country, go and solve one; do not cause a fresh one. She is related to the president, it will not be hard to get an appointment. If she cannot understand this solution, she lacks the honour to be qualified in the first place.

The last point in defense of this situation is comical. I have read a statement saying “in a football match, the teams do not decide or bother about who the referee is. It is never done. Rather, they focus on how to win the match.” Raise his hand the one man in Nigeria who thinks this is true.
