Acting National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, on Saturday maintained that his leadership of the party remained the authentic body, declaring that there was no going back and that leaders and members in the fold should exercise no fear as they were on the right side of the law.
Apapa made this position known while speaking in Lagos at the inauguration of the 24-man State Caretaker Committee of the party headed by Prince Olumide Adesoyin, noting that he was chairman of the Labour Party nationally and recognized by the courts in the land.
This was just as the party chieftain challenged anyone not satisfied with the situation to go to court, saying he was “prepared to face them if they are contesting what I say.”
“I say here, there is no going back. Nigeria belongs to all of us. Don’t fear, there is nothing to fear.
“There is nothing to fear about. Abure must go to court. I am prepared to face them if they are contesting what I say
“You are on the right side, if they fail to join you, we have the party filled already to capacity. I am the chairman of the Labour Party for the entire country,” he said.
Speaking further, Apapa pointed to the recent court judgements in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi, among other states, where candidates of the party led by his leadership were ones that were declared to have emerged from properly conducted primaries, saying that was enough evidence to authenticate him as the legally recognized LP national chairman.
He assured leaders and members that they would not labour in vain and their dreams would be fulfilled, and later inaugurated the new party exco for Lagos State.
Speaking earlier, Acting National Organising Secretary of the party, Bishop Reuben Favour, in his goodwill message, also maintained that Labour Party headed by Alhaji Apapa is the authentic fold, adding: “We are not Igbo party but national party with national spread.”
“Labour Party is not a party for Nollywood actors. We are the authentic party. The others you see around are support groups.
“The only man elected as chairman is Alhaji Apapa, he was not nominated but was elected,” he said.
Another party chieftain, Hon. Moshood Adegoke Salvador, said he sympathised with anyone who could not see the right path to follow, declaring that Alhaji Apapa was politically, socially and legally recognized person to lead Labour Party.
Salvador, who is a former chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said LP was not struggling or fighting anybody, adding: “We are welcoming people into the party.”
In his welcome address, National Vice Chairman (S/West) of the party, Hon. Abass Sina Aroyewun, asserted that Labour Party was working together to achieve a stable nation, saying it was the reason Nigerians should give it a chance to rule the country.
He, however, prayed that God would allow such to come to reality, adding: “We are working together for a stable nation, that is why people should give us a chance to rule and by the grace of God, we shall achieve that.”
Speaking after inauguration, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Prince Adesoyin said truth had prevailed with his coming into office alongside other Exco members, warning that those illegally parading themselves “in Lagos Labour Party should stay off the street henceforth.”
Adesoyin, ahead of the House of Representatives bye-election coming up in Surulere Federal Constituency 1, assured that the party was set for victory, saying that whichever party was conducting against Labour Party in the exercise “would congratulate us while the counting is still ongoing.”
“We are going to repeat the feat in local council polls coming up in two years’ time. We are going to rule Lagos,” he said.
