The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the November 11th Governorship election in Imo State, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, has insisted that the PDP remains intact without any cracks.
This comes just hours after seven principal officers of the State Working Committee (SWC) resigned from the party en masse, just five months before the election.
Anyanwu made the remarks during his 58th Birthday Thanksgiving Church Service in his Amimo Country home in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, where he told newsmen that the political party is intact and described the resignations as good riddance.
“As the National Secretary of the PDP, I am used to this kind of mass resignation. I thought they were men of integrity, but unknown to me, they lack shame. Probably, the money they got from the sales of forms and other means has run out. They are just funny. Why resign on a Sunday and through a press conference?” Anyanwu said.
Anyanwu acknowledged that he was aware that prior to Sunday, the resigning officials had been negotiating with Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC for their preferred governorship candidate ahead of 2027.
He further stated, “The party is stronger and intact. The truth is that it is their fundamental right to resign.”
Regarding accusations that he unilaterally selected his running mate, Hon. Jones Onyeriri, Anyanwu refuted the claims, stating that all critical stakeholders, including the SWC members, were consulted, and their endorsement of him during his unveiling at the party’s Secretariat last month justified their decision.
The Governorship hopeful expressed optimism that his political party would emerge victorious in the governorship election, emphasizing that he only needed God’s grace and the support of the people to win.
He reiterated that he had the grace and favour of God, as well as the support of the people, to win the November election.
The Thanksgiving event and birthday anniversary of the PDP National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, was considered a huge success, given the attendance of a large crowd and the presence of prominent politicians and personalities at his ancestral Anglican Church and his ancestral compound.
