PRESIDENT, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr Frances Faduyile, has commended the Oyo State government over the establishment of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital (LTH) in Ogbomoso.
Disclosing this during a courtesy visit to the management of the hospital last week, he also applauded the relationship that existed between the management of the hospital and the duo of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) and Association of Resident Doctors (ARD).
He said the major reason for the establishment of teaching hospitals was to have specialised care, while he pleaded for more specialised doctors in various fields of medicine.
Faduyile also appealed to the hospital management to look into doing more for the resident doctors in terms of sponsoring trainings, while asking that the backlog of unpaid half salaries, which spanned two years, should be paid.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor George Opadijo, while receiving the NMA boss and his team, said the bane of the hospital was funding, adding that the board and management were doing their best in putting considerable pressure on the government for funding.
He noted that key trauma areas of orthopaedic, cardiology and kidney-related diseases were being given prompt attention.
The former acting CMD of the hospital, Dr Ademola Aremu, while noting that this was the first time the hospital would be receiving the national body of the NMA, said “the hospital is still a baby and every sacrifice needed is being put in place to ensure its survival.”
According to him, with the hospital’s 64 slides CT scan machine, which is second to none in any tertiary hospital in the country and MRI machine, which delivery would be taken soonest and other state-of-the-art equipment, the hospital was bound to surpass the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, with time.
