The newly installed 17th chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Oyo State chapter, Mr Eweoya Olusegun Ayedogbon, has decried the level of physical planning in Oyo State.
Eweoya made the declaration in his inaugural speech on Thursday during his investiture and the inauguration of the executive committee members of the state in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The state NITP chairman called on town planners in the state to preach urban planning to all and sundry, so as to facilitate an improved quality of living for the residents of Oyo State.
Eweoya commended the strategic development plans executed by Governor Seyi Makinde in different parts of the state, particularly in Ibadan, adding that they were physical/regional planning in the right direction.
Among the inaugurated executive members of the state NITP at the occasion were the Vice Chairman, Adesope Peter Olufunso; Mayowa Abiala, General Secretary; Oluwaseyi Aremu, Assistant General Secretary; Olagunju Deborah, Treasurer; Adesokan Samuel Adelodun, Public Relations Secretary and Bolaji Akeem Isola, Assistant Public Relations Secretary.
Other installed executive members were Sherifat Alolade Olaniyi, Auditor; Adediji Alaba, Financial Secretary; Gbadegesin Rasaq Adewale, Assistant Financial Secretary; the immediate past Oyo State NITP chairman, Kamoru Olajide Adeyemo, ex- Officio 1 and Chief Rotimi Olaniran as ex- Officio 11.
In his opening remarks, the Oyo State Housing Corporation Chairman and also the chairman at the occasion, Chief Bayo Lawal, charged town planners to ensure all estate developers keyed into the vision of the Makinde-led administration for the development of the state.
Lawal noted that “there is no coordination between developers and the state town planning association.”
The guest speaker at the event, Honourable Oyetunji Peter Olusegun, said because ‘physical planning guides orderly development’, power must be used in the planning process for effective enforcement.
Recipients of awards at the occasion were the pioneer national secretary of the association, Chief Goke Adediran; Senior Chief Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin; Mrs Eniola Olayinka Agbola; Mrs Taiwo Olurin; Professor Timothy Olayiwola Egunjobi; the General Manager, Oyo Housing Corporation, Adekunle Samuel Olajire, among other awardees.
Professional bodies of the building profession, the Women Wing of Town Planners and state chapters of NITP, and a prominent traditional ruler also graced the event.
