The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has elected Dr Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu as the new President.
The Society also elected Dr Charles Onyeukwu as the new Deputy President.
In his acceptance speech, the new President said he would ensure that Information Technology is at top gear in the country in bid to achieve national development.
Dr Muhammad also said efforts will be made to take ICT to the grassroots as no organisation or nation can thrive without inclusiveness.
He, therefore, urged the new Minister to work with the relevant stakeholders to achieve its agenda.
“We will take ICT down to the grassroots. We will ensure IT is used to achieve national development.
“The Minister should work with relevant stakeholders like NCS It will be much more easier to achieve his agenda,” he said.
In his remarks, the outgone NCS President, Professor Adesina Shodiya lamented that the prominent challenge in the sector is ICT development in Nigeria.
Professor Shodiya noted that expecting are that the country would have moved beyond the current state of IT in Nigeria especially in the area of e-governance.
He added that all the government activities are not yet automated.
Professor Adeshina said there is need to do more in the area of skills acquisition, looking at a situation where the country will build its own robots and commercialise them.
