Hundreds of Nigerians took to the streets of Kano in protest against the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) plan to declare war against the coupists in the Niger Republic.
The protesters who embarked on a procession on the street expressed their displeasure at the planned military invasion of Niger and chanted various slogans to voice their concerns.
However, the Nigeria Police, Kano state command, has refuted the viral video of the protest as a rumour.
According to Kano Police Public Relation Officer ( PPRO) SP Haruna Kiyawa, the purported video trending which showed some people protesting is that of members of El-Zakky ( Shiat) who always did a precession every Friday to demonstrate their annoyance on any burning issue prevailing in the country.
“It was this movement of members if Shai last Friday posted on social media platforms that some people misconstrued to be a protest in Kano,” Kiyawa maintained.
SP Haruna Kiyawa said as far as he was concerned, there was no protest in Kano
However, a source within the command who preferred anonymity said,” The police does not give any permission to anybody or group of people to stage a protest in the state
The source hinted, “As you were aware that the graduation ceremony of Cadet inspector was held at Nigeria Police Academy Wudil, today our officials were deployed to strategic positions in the state capital.
