NGO urges young people to be self-confident, productive

Mr Eyo Uso, the Head of Programmes and Policy, Young People’s Initiative (YPI), an NGO, has advised youths to always be self-confident and engage in meaningful ventures for personal development.

Uso gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, in Bwari.

He said that lack of self confidence on the part of youths could lead them to indulge in anti-social vices, adding that failure to make right decisions also hindered growth.

According to him, youths should engage in useful endeavors including reading and sporting activities, to improve themselves.

Uso said that most youths were unemployed because they relied on white collar jobs.

“I urge youths to believe in their capabilities; by believing in yourself you will not allow yourself to be used as agents of vices in the society.

“They should come out from their shells; they should get involved in meaningful activities that will be productive to their lives and to the society.

“They should learn to be more entrepreneurial in nature; the era of being solely dependent on the government for job creation is no more tenable.

“They must explore the innate potentials that God has given them, by so doing, they will become more self-reliant in life,” Uso said.

He, however, urged government at all levels to always include the youths in decision making processes, to enable them understand their place in nation building.
