The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Saturday, flagged off the distribution of relief materials for 2100 victims of recent communal clashes in some parts of southern Taraba.
Mr Habib Mustafa, Director General of the Agency, while speaking at the ceremony in Takum said, Federal Government has found it necessary to intervene in the hardship being undergone by victims of communal clashes in Nigeria and was committed to ensuring same in Taraba.
Represented by Mr Ladan Ayuba, the NEMA Head of Operations, Adamawa/Taraba office noted that, the agency has made available both food and non-food items to cushion the effect of the hardship.
“The flag-off and distribution of these items are aimed at bringing succour to those who have been displaced in recent communal clashes in some parts of southern Taraba.

“The distribution of these materials to 2100 direct beneficiaries was translated into 350 households covering the affected local government areas of Donga, Takum and Ussa local government areas as well as Yangtu Development Area,” the DG explained.
He regretted the situation where funds that would have been used for developmental purposes were been diverted to cushion the effect of a crisis that has no developmental value to the society and appealed to the affected communities to embrace peace for the growth of Taraba.
Hon Shiban Tikari, Chairman of Takum Local government, commended the Federal Government for the gesture, he disclosed that peace has returned to the affected communities.
Tikari advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items especially the building materials for their resettlements.
Mr Philip Nzuwe and Mrs Hanatu Gimba who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the Federal government for coming to their rescue at the time of need and commended NEMA officials for the transparency displayed in the exercise.
