National Park seeks patriotic whistle blowers to build national carbon credit

Conservator-General of National Park Service, Dr Ibrahim Goni,

National Park Service has charged Nigerians to be patriotic and come forward with reports and evidence of illegal loggers in their respective domain for precision-guided arrest and discouragement from lowering the nation’s asset of its forest reserve.

Conservator General of the National Park Service, Ibrahim Goni said this in Abuja during a media parley on the stand of the agency of government on illegal logging.

He noted that the continual indiscriminate act of tree felling poses serious danger to man, who relied on the purification of the air by the plants and its preservation of biodiversity, besides the load of carbon credit derivable to the nation in the natural fight on climate change.

His words: “People know these illegal loggers and their buyers, they live among us, and they should report them to the appropriate authorities because the evil they are covering will consume us all, if not nipped in the bud.

“The risks from illegal logging are dire; trees absorb and store carbon dioxide. If forests are cleared, or even disturbed, they release carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases which will be harmful to the environment and humans as well.

“Nigeria and Nigerians will be the victims of the activities of these illegal loggers if they continue unchecked.

“A safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment is the foundation of human life. But today, because of human action the crises of climate change are directly and severely impacting our lives and environment negatively.”
