Nasarawa SDP lauds Buhari for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day

THE Nasarawa State Chapter of Social Democratic Party (SDP) has commended President Mohammadu Buhari for declaring June 12 as the new Democracy-day in the country.

The party’s chairman, Danlami Musa, gave the commendation yesterday (Tuesday) during a rally to commemoration the day in Lafia.

According to him, during the June 12 election in 1993, Moshood Abiola, SDP Presidential candidate polled 8, 341, 309 in the states that results were announced.

“Abiola got an overwhelming support across the country representing 58 percent of the total votes cast, despite running a Muslim/Muslim ticket,” he added.

Musa also commended the President’s decision to recognized Abiola and Babagana Kingibe with GCFR and GCON awards.
He added that SDP would repeat the feat its archived in 1993 come 2019 in the country and in Nasarawa State.

He, however, condemned the recent Local Government election in Nasarawa State describing it as ‘a complete fraud and a mockery to democracy.

He, therefore, said that SDP rejected the outcome of the LG election and would soon take the decision in that regard.
