The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has strongly refuted false allegations made by Jamila Sidi Sirajo in a viral video, claiming that the agency did nothing regarding her complaint of domestic abuse.
In a statement signed by the NAPTIP Communication Officer, Adekoye Vincent, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to justice and transparency in handling cases of sexual and domestic violence.
“NAPTIP commenced investigations into the matter on September 30, 2020, when Jamila Sidi Sirajo reported a case of spousal battery and abandonment against her estranged husband, Mohammed Tafida.”
“However, she withdrew her petition on October 12, 2020, citing advice from family and friends to resolve the matter privately. NAPTIP respected her decision and closed the case.”
“On November 9, 2020, Jamila requested the Agency to reopen her case, which NAPTIP promptly did, recommencing the investigation. This demonstrates NAPTIP’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of domestic violence.
“A two-count charge was filed against Mohammed Tafida at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on July 8, 2021. This marks a significant milestone in the case, showcasing NAPTIP’s dedication to prosecuting perpetrators of domestic violence.”
“Despite facing unfounded accusations and challenges from Jamila Sidi Sirajo and the defendant’s counsel, NAPTIP has demonstrated unwavering diligence in prosecuting the case.
“The agency has maintained professional integrity and commitment to justice, countered unfounded accusations and allegations, and ensured the case is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
“NAPTIP has addressed the false allegations made by Jamila Sidi Sirajo, stating that they are “shocking and utterly unfounded.”
“The agency has provided a detailed timeline of events, showcasing its commitment to justice and transparency.”
“NAPTIP continues to call on all stakeholders to support its efforts in ensuring justice is served. The agency will not be swayed by attempts to undermine its mission through baseless allegations.
“Together, we can create a society where victims of sexual and domestic violence receive the justice they deserve.”
