THE National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwifery, Sokoto State chapter held a one-day inaugural induction course on Sunday, where they called on Nurses to be more professional in discharging their duties.
The chairman of the Association in Sokoto State, Comrade Abubakar Shehu, while delivering his opening remarks called on the Nurses in the country to continue to promote unity among themselves and other health workers.
He called on all branches of Nurses as well as midwives to refrain from being used by outsiders from breaking their ranks by causing division in between them in the line of discharging their duties.
Abubakar further advised the health workers to continue to be caring to their patients, saying care is part and parcel of the nursing profession. He commended his members for their quest for more education qualification both within and outside the country.

He also commended the State Government for sponsoring Nurses for more education, while appealing to Government at all levels to take the profession more serious in terms of remuneration and other benefits related to their work.
Also speaking, the national president of the Association, Mr Adeniji Abdulrafiu who was represented by the national Auditor, Comerade Haruna Mandabas, also urges the Nigerian Nurses to improve in communication not only with their colleagues but also their patients, by telling them reasons why they have to harsh on them at times.
He disclosed that a committee that was set up at the national headquarters of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA and NANNM to look at the issues between the two unions has discovered about 15 points which one of them is break in communication, saying they are working on how Doctors and Nurses will work together without any hitches.
He appealed to State Government to make the salary of Nurses in the state same as that of the Nurses working in federal hospitals as being done in some states, saying it will encourage them and improve productivity among the workers.
Responding, the Sokoto State head of service, Dr Buhari Bello Kware while declaring the induction open, advised Nurses on the payroll of state government to always inform the authority before embarking on training or more education, saying it will not only secure their job but also help them to benefit on promotion and other emoluments in their working place.
Kware lamented on the rate at which health workers abandoned state jobs for the federal appointment after obtaining training from the state. He assured Nurses in the state that the State Government would soon review their salaries and allowances have done with that of medical Doctors in the state.
