The country seems to be divided over the current government. What is your assessment of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration?
Many people are having various views about President Buhari, but I think God puts him there because there is no president or king that was not ordained by God. He is using him for a purpose in this nation. The main problem is the people and not the president and unless we turn away from our wicked ways, Nigeria will remain the same.
So what is the way forward for the country?
As I said, healing will not come to the land until sin is removed. The scripture said that ‘If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, pray and turn away from their sins, I, the Lord will hear them’. I want everyone to have the belief that Nigeria will be better agWain. They should pray for the growth and success of Nigeria instead of cursing the country.
What has life taught you as a cleric?
There is nothing wrong in pursuing the things of this world, but you must not love them. I am not moved by thing of the world since the day I gave my life to Christ. I had once lived a flamboyant life. In fact, in 1994, I owned one of the best cars. But since I encountered Jesus, my life has experienced a turnaround and I have been living a life that glorifies God.
What is it like to be cleric?
It’s a great privilege to be a cleric. In fact, clerics should be the most paid persons on earth because their job is priceless; we are winning souls for Christ. Heaven rejoices over a soul that repents. I have a rest of mind being a cleric.
What was your family’s reaction when you told them you had received the call?
Considering the kind of life I lived in the past, they found it difficult to believe me. When my wife came back from overseas and met a transformed man, she had her doubt. Having known me to be a man that was full of life, she couldn’t bring herself to seeing me as a pastor. I was the socialite that the popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, sang his praises as the Borokini of Lagos then. There was much pressure from all over that she should dump me, that I was going to use her for rituals in order for me to build my church. The battle of trust went on for years, but God intervened and the rest is history. It was a different ball game when I was in the world. I was conferred with the title of Borokini of Lagos. I was full of life and had fame. To the glory of God, He found me and made me a servant in his vineyard.
How was growing up like?
Growing up was wonderful. I was born in Sagamu, Ogun State, but I hail from Egbanke in Edo State. I came from a humble family. My father’s humility taught me a lot of things, being the only son in the family of Osunbor Iroh. He left Egbanke for Sagamu and from there, we came to Lagos in 1962. I began my primary school in Lagos at MDC, Mushin, Lagos State. Due to financial difficulties, I was unable to proceed to secondary school. We faced difficult challenges that stopped my education for four years. It was after four years I eventually succeeded in getting admission to Western College of Commerce.
