A man, Sikiru Ayodele, has approached Grade A Customary Court, Oja Oba, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that it dissolve the wedlock between him and Serifat on the grounds of stubbornness, irresponsibility, neglect and violence.
Sikiru told the court that Serifat had no regard for him and hardly ever listened to his advice.
He explained that his wife readily flouted his orders in the home and dared that he did his worst.
The plaintiff further said that the defendant was untidy and always left their apartment unkempt and turned upside-down.
Sikiru added that he took up the responsibility of purchasing foodstuffs for his family because his wife always spent on herself, the food allowance he gave her, thus leaving their children to starve.
He stated that any time he complained, Serifat would fight him.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant was in the habit of targeting his testicles and squeezing them in her hands any time they fought.
Sikiru told the court he had had enough of his wife’s atrocities and therefore prayed the court to end their relationship and grant him custody of their children.
Serifat denied all the allegations brought against her.
She refused that their marriage be dissolved and also disagree with her husband’s request for their children’s custody.
Sikiru giving his evidence said, “My lord, my wife is a thorn in the flesh. I do not wish to have her under my roof any longer.
“Serifat has no respect for me. She rubs shoulder with me in the home and willingly flouted my orders.
“My wife is stubborn and turns a deaf ear to every advice I give her. She would go and do the contrary.
“Serifat lacks the attributes of a virtuous woman. She is dirty and untidy.
“Our home is unwelcoming to me because it is always in disarray.
“The more I complain, the worse my wife becomes.
“Serifat being an irresponsible fellow, on many occasions, abandons the house chores and her duties towards me.
“I do the purchase of foodstuffs and some other needs in the home because my wife is not trustworthy.
“She spends the weekly allowance I give her for the upkeep of the home on herself and leaves our children to starve.
“Our children are a pity sight. They look malnourished because they are under-fed.
“My wife has never shown interest in our children’s education. She is not bothered if they are learned or not.
“I enrolled them in a lesson which they attend after school hours.
“I once put their lesson fees in their exercise books so that they can hand over these to their teachers before class.
“My wife removed the money from their books before they returned home from school and denied their lesson teachers their pay for that month.
“I had no other choice but to make another provision for their teachers.
“Serifat and I once had a disagreement and she invited his brother to beat me.
“She and her brother later got me arrested by the police.
“My lord, any time my wife fights me, she targets my scrotum.
“Serifat will grab and squeeze my scrotum in her hand and leaves me screaming in pain.
“I cannot go on living with such a devilish woman.
“I plead that the court stopped our relationship and grant me custody of our children because she is a bad example to them.”
The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case till August 4.
