A housewife, Hajara Ya’u, has approached an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking the dissolution of her marriage to Samaila Yahaya over alleged assault.
Hajara told the court that she got married to Samaila according to Islamic law in 2011, and the marriage is blessed with three children aged 11, 9 and one.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the plaintiff accused the defendant of physically assaulting her constantly with a threat to disfigure her.
“My husband accuses me of prostitution at the slightest opportunity. I do not love him anymore,” she said.
The plaintiff, however, begged the court to dissolve their marriage on the grounds of assault and lack of love.
The judge, Yahaya Sheshi, said the proof of service had shown that the respondent had been served with the court processes, but refused to appear in court.
Sheshi added that the court would proceed in the respondent’s absence and therefore adjourned the case.
