My father’s constipation

My 65-year-old father who retired last year has been home for a while doing practically nothing. He now complains of constipation. Unfortunately, this has not improved despite a lot of treatment. Kindly let me know what we can do about this.

Your father’s sedentary life style may be responsible for his constipation. In addition, a diet low in fiber and high in processed foods can contribute to constipation. Other likely causes include; Dehydration: Not drinking enough water or fluids can cause constipation. Also, certain medications, such as opioid pain medications, can cause constipation. In addition, certain medical conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or thyroid disorders, can cause constipation. In view of this, it will be advisable to advise your father to increase his physical activities, such as walking or going to the gym. He should also increase his daily water intake as well as his intake of vegetables and fruits.
